     John Poteet was born circa 1730.1 On 6 September 1753 William McComas conveyed land consisting of the remaining lease on 100 acres of a 200 acre tract known as "McComas' Manor" to John Poteet at Baltimore County, Maryland.2 He witnessed the will of Alexander McComas on 18 October 1760.3,4 John Poteet married Ann Miles, daughter of Thomas Miles, on 20 April 1762.5,6,4 On 3 October 1767 John Poteet conveyed land consisting of the remaining lease on 100 acre portion of "McComas' Manor" to Aquila McComas at Baltimore County, Maryland. Aquila was the brother of John's wife's (Ann's) first husband, and the first cousin of William McComas, who had signed the lease over to John.7

     Josephus W Powell was born on 29 March 1837 at Maryland.1,3 He married Catherine Coltrider, daughter of Frederick Coltrider and Barbara (?), circa 1858.1 In 1860,Josephus W Powell appeared on the Federal Census of Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland,, in the household of his in-laws, Frederick Coltrider and Barbara (?). Also living in the household: Catherine Coltrider, John Powell and William H Jacob.1 Josephus W Powell was a laborer in 1860.1 He began military service by registering for the draft in September 1863 at Union Town, Maryland, stating that he was a laborer.4 He began military service on 13 February 1864 at Baltimore, Maryland, as a private in Company E, 1st Regiment of the Maryland Cavalry for a 3 year term, and received $60 bounty and 1 monh advance pay, with $40 bounty remaining unpaid.4 He was described as 5' 8" tall, with dark complexion, hazel eyes and dark hair on 13 February 1864.5 He was wounded in action by a gun shot wound in right side (and sent to hospital in Washington DC thru roughly the end of the year) on 14 August 1864 at Deep Bottom, Virginia.5 He was on 3 February 1865 at near Darbytown Road, Virginia, badly wounded while on picket duty (gun shot wound through left foot) and sent to the hospital at Point of Rocks, VA. He was charged $3.95 for the lost of 1 carbine screwdriver, 1 brushwiper, 1 sabre knot, and 1 pair of saddle bags.5 He was circa May 1865 transferred to Patterson Park Hospital in Baltiore.5 He ended military service on 17 July 1865 at General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. He was listed as being paid through 13 Mar 1864, owed 3 cents for clothing, and $240 in bounty ($60 already paid).5 In 1870, Josephus W Powell and Catherine Coltrider appeared on the Federal Census of Westminster, Carroll County, Maryland, listed as owning $1800 in real estate, $400 in personal property, and not being able to write. Their children Susanna M, Mary C and Hannah C V were listed as living with them.2 Josephus W Powell died on 7 April 1877 at age 40.3 He was buried after 7 April 1877 at Saint Marys Cemetery, Silver Run, Carroll County, Maryland.3

     Benjamin Preston, son of James Preston and Mary Bond,, was born on 15 October 1758.3,2 Benjamin Preston was the son of James Preston and Mary Bond.1,2 Benjamin Preston was mentioned in the will of James Preston, his grandfather, dated 17 September 1766.1 Benjamin Preston was in military service on 9 December 1775 a private in Captain Love's Co.
