Biography
William McComas was born on 19 September 1790.1,2 As of 1808, William McComas lived at 36 High St. He married Ellen Fort in 1815.1,2 As of 1819, William McComas lived in Park Lane. William McComas was a superintendent of sweeps. In 1820 William McComas was engaged in manufacture.3 He and Ellen Fort appeared in the census in 1820 in Ward 12, Baltimore City, Maryland, listed as having a household of 2 males under 10 , 1 male 26-45, 2 females 10-16(unknown) and 1 female 16-26. Captain Henry Gough McComas and William Keyser McComas were living in the household with their parents.3 In 1847 William McComas and Ellen Fort deeded a 4-acre plot of ground to the Mountain Christian Church to build their first Church structure.4 He died on 2 August 1857 at age 66.2 He was buried after 2 August 1857 at Mountain Christian Church Cemetery in Joppa, Harford County, Maryland.2

Ellen Fort was also known as Ellen McComas.1 She was born on 22 August 1798.1,2 She married William McComas in 1815.1,2 William McComas and she appeared in the census in 1820 in Ward 12, Baltimore City, Maryland, listed as having a household of 2 males under 10 , 1 male 26-45, 2 females 10-16(unknown) and 1 female 16-26. Captain Henry Gough McComas was born on 19 October 1816 in Maryland.1,2,3 In 1820, Captain Henry Gough McComas appeared on the census in Ward 12, Baltimore City, Maryland, in the household of his parents, William McComas and Ellen Fort.4 Captain Henry Gough McComas married Keziah Araminta Cunningham on 7 May 1840 in Harford County, Maryland.1,5,6 He and Keziah Araminta Cunningham obtained a licence to marry on 7 May 1840 in Harford County, Maryland.7 He named his property Glenwood about 1841. He appeared in the census in 1850 in Baltimore City, Maryland, listed with a wife named Catherine (age 28), Ann Cunningham (age 67) who is suspected to be his mother-in-law, and Ellen Unknown (age 18) who is a hireling.3 In 1850 Captain Henry Gough McComas was a sea captain.3 He died on 21 June 1858 at age 41.1,2,6 He was buried after 21 June 1858 at Mountain Christian Church Cemetery in Joppa, Harford County, Maryland.2

Keziah Araminta Cunningham was also known as Keziah Araminta McComas.1,3 She was also known as Kezia Cunningham.3 She was born on 20 February 1812 in Ireland.1,3,4 She married Captain Henry Gough McComas on 7 May 1840 in Harford County, Maryland.1,2,4 Captain Henry Gough McComas and she obtained a licence to marry on 7 May 1840 in Harford County, Maryland.5 In 1850 Keziah Araminta Cunningham might be on the census with her husband but if so, is listed as Catherine, age 28.6 She died on 12 November 1898 at age 86.1,3 She was buried after 12 November 1899 at Mountain Christian Church Cemetery in Joppa, Harford County, Maryland.3

Henry Gough McComas was born on 20 September 1795 in Baltimore City, Maryland.1 He died on 12 September 1814 at Gorsuch Farm in Gorsuch Mills, Baltimore County, Maryland, in the Battle of North Point during the war of 1812. He was a private in Captain Edward Asquith's Militia Rifle Company. He and a friend Daniel Wells, are credited with killing the British General Ross, and stopping the invasion of Baltimore (by land). The British then retreated to their ships and began the bombardment, during which Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner. A monument was erected to honor the Battle of North Point which bears Henry Gough's name (among others) at age 18.2,1
