Captain William McComas was born on 17 May 1739 in Baltimore County, Maryland.1,3,4,5,2 He married Elizabeth Scott on 22 January 1760 in Baltimore County, Maryland.1,6,7,8,5 He was mentioned in the will of Daniel McComas, his father, dated on 16 June 1765.9,10 On 16 January 1775, Captain William McComas was present at the meeting of the Harford County Committee in Harford County, Maryland, and appointed as one of the gentlemen for Bush River Upper Hundred to collect from the inhabitants either contributions for the Relief of the Poor in Boston or for the purchase of arms and ammunition.11 On 22 February 1775, Captain William McComas was elected to the Harford County Committee as a representative for in Bush River Upper Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.11 On 23 February 1775, Captain William McComas was present at the meeting of the Harford County Committee in Harford County, Maryland.11 On 1 May 1775, Captain William McComas was present at the meeting of the Harford County Committee in Harford County, Maryland.11 On 12 September 1775, Captain William McComas was present at the meeting of the Harford County Committee in Harford County, Maryland. At this meeting, the committee was dissolved.11 He began military service on 30 September 1775 in Captain William Bradford's Company of the Harford County, Maryland Militia.11,12 In 1775 Captain William McComas was a member of the War Committee of Harford County.12 In 1776 Captain William McComas was a signer of the Association of Freemen for Bush River Upper.12 He registered for military service in 1776 as a Captain, 8th Battalion, Militia.12 On 24 March 1778 Captain William McComas took the Oath of Fidelity (Oath of Allegiance to Maryland) before Abraham Whitaker.13 He was listed in the tax record of 1778 in the portion that was Bush River Upper Hundred until 1777, Eden Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.9 In 1783 Captain William McComas served as a Harford County Petit Juror.12 He married Hannah Bond before June 1784 in Baltimore County, Maryland.1,3,5,2 He married Mary McComas on 14 February 1797 in Baltimore County, Maryland.1,7,14,5 He and Mary McComas appeared in the census in 1800 in Maryland listed as having of a household of 2 males under 10, 1 male 26-44 (William), 1 female under 10, and 1 female 26-44 (Mary.)15 He died of freezing to death in a snowstorm on 25 May 1815 in Harford County, Maryland. As strange as that sounds for May, perhaps the only errorenous detail was the year. In Maryland, 1816, not 1815, was known as the "Year With No Summer". Due to atmospheric dust from volcanic eruptions, it was the coldest summer in Maryland history, with frost and ice common. Farmers wore overcoats and gloves during the July wheat harvest. at age 76.1,3,5,2
