In fact, she had been present at the Communion Service the week before she died.1 On 8 October 1916, her funeral was conducted in the First Church, York, PA, and officiated by Rev A.A. Long (the pastor), assisted by Revs. R.R. Rodes, J.P.Koontz, and Joseph Daughtery, a former pastor. There were 13 ministers present.1 She died on 8 October 1916 at 533 West Princess Street in York City, York County, Pennsylvania, at 1:00 AM at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles T. Smith at age 85. The death was witnessed by Margaret Craumer.1 Catherine Sterner was buried on 11 October 1916 at Greenmount Cemetery in Codorus Township, York County, Pennsylvania.1
