Biography

James Preston was born on 25 September 1735.1,2 He married Mary Bond on 11 May 1756.3 In August 1774, James Preston posted a Surety Bond, along with Nathan Scott for Stephen Hill to get a tavern license. A Surety Bond is a guarantee of payment for applicable taxes.4 In 1776 James Preston was a signer of the Association of Freemen for Spesutie Upper.5 In 1778 James Preston was a signer of the Oath of Allegiance.5

Martin Preston was born on 19 October 1750.1,3,2 On 17 September 1766, Martin Preston was named as an heir in the will of James Preston, his father, to share 2/3 of his father's estate equally with his siblings and the children of sister Hannah, who were Barnard Preston, Ann Preston, Mary Preston, Sarah Preston, and Elizabeth Preston.4 Martin Preston registered for military service on 9 December 1775 as a Ensign in Captain Jacob Bond's Co. No. 11.5,6 In 1775 Martin Preston signed the Association of Freemen for Gunpowder Neck (Gundpowder Lower Hundred.)7 In 1776 Martin Preston was a signer of the Association of Freemen for Bush River Lower.5 He registered for military service in 1776 as a 2nd Lietenant in Captain James McComas' Company in the 8th Battalion of the Harford County Militia.5,6 On 3 March 1778 Martin Preston signed the Oath of Fidelity and Support before John Love in Harford County, Maryland.8,5 He was listed in the tax record of 1778 in Spesutia Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.7 In September 1779, Martin Preston sold land consisting of about two acres, for a nominal amount (almost a gift of the land) to Father Sewall for the building of St. Ignatius Church in Hickory, Harford County, Maryland.6

Bernard Preston was born on 29 April 1754.1,3,2 He married Mary Forwood about 1774.4 On 10 September 1775, Bernard Preston appeared on a list of Non-Associators and Non-Enrollers in Harford County as having paid 2 pounds 10 shillings.5 He was listed in the tax record of 1778 in Spesutia Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.4 In 1784 Bernard Preston moved to in Washington County, Pennsylvania.4 He died in 1822 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, at age ~68.4

Robert Johnson was born about 1757.1 He began military service on 9 December 1775 in Captain Jacob Bond's Company of the Harford County, Maryland Militia.2 He married Mary Preston about 1777.1,3 On 3 March 1778 Robert Johnson signed the Oath of Fidelity and Support before John Love in Harford County, Maryland.4 He was listed in the tax record of 1778 in Spesutia Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.5
