He was born on 21 July 1835 in Maryland.1,2 On 19 October 1850, John Stoffell Hare appeared on the census in 11th Ward (now Waverly section), Baltimore City, Maryland, in the household of his parents, Jacob B. Hare and Elizabeth Feather.1 In 1860, John Stoffell Hare appeared on the census, in the household of his parents, Jacob B. Hare and Elizabeth Feather. John Stoffell Hare married Barbara Ebbert on 17 April 1862.2 Between 1871 and 1880 John Stoffell Hare and Barbara Ebbert moved to Illinois from Maryland sometime after their marriage, along with David F Hare, Eliza, John Ebbert, and George Ebbert.3 John Stoffell Hare and Barbara Ebbert were divorced on 10 December 1881 in Fulton County, Illinois.2 On 24 February 1882, John Stoffell Hare was named as an heir in the will of Jacob B.
